What are the Ivies?
In the context of the Ivy League, “the Ivies” means its eight member schools. The Ivy League is a defined athletic conference, not a general label for every selective college. This guide identifies the eight schools and their main undergraduate campus locations.
Which colleges are in the Ivy League?
The eight members are Brown University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, Harvard University, the University of Pennsylvania, Princeton University and Yale University. The map labels each college by name; this directory identifies the Ivy League members.

Which states have Ivy League colleges?
The eight campuses span seven states: Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island. New York has two members: Columbia in New York City and Cornell in Ithaca. Dartmouth is the New Hampshire member, in Hanover.
Why does Dartmouth have a red marker?
Dartmouth College normally has students take three courses per quarter. It is red for that academic pattern, not to indicate a different membership status. The other seven Ivy League colleges use semester-based calendars and have black markers. Individual course loads can vary.
Ivy League vs. Little Ivy
The Ivy League has a defined conference membership. Little Ivy is an informal description of a group of smaller, academically competitive colleges. It is not another division of the Ivy League. The two college directories distinguish the groups. Marker color identifies the academic-calendar pattern described on the map.
Are there eight or 26 Ivies?
The Ivy League has eight members. This map shows those eight schools alongside 18 colleges in an informal Little Ivy grouping, for 26 colleges in total. The Little Ivies are a separate grouping and are not members of the Ivy League.
Sources and map scope
Membership follows the Ivy League’s official membership information. Campus locations are linked to official institutional pages in the table. Universities may operate additional campuses; this map focuses on their main undergraduate locations. The map is a geographic guide, not a ranking or admissions prediction.
